Introduction

This web site contains material to prepare for the upcoming leadership session. The preparation is designed to help you assess your current leadership style and is an integral part of the session. Please make sure to allow sufficient time to complete it in order to optimize your learning experience.

The application includes a self-profile questionnaire, including scoring sheets and instructions for organization of feedback. The more prepared you are when you arrive at the conference, the more valuable it will be for you.

Manage user profile and observers

When you start the evaluation you will be asked to create one or two observers. Note that you cannot start the evaluate before you have created at least one observer.

In the right part of the menu you can contact the administrator for the Leadership Diamond and change language. If you click your name, a sub menu appears from which you can add a second observer (if you only have one) and send reminder e-mails to your current observers. Through "Edit Profile" you can also change your password, e-mail and display name.

Preparation

Allow up to an hour to complete your self-profile questionnaire. You don't need to wait for your observers to complete their questionnaires before you begin. However when your observers are done, you can print out your results.

Why the “Observers” profiles?

How we perceive our own behaviors and attitudes is sometimes at odds with the way others see us. Seeking direct feedback from individuals who interact with us can help us understand to what extent our intentions match the effects of our behavior on others. The two observers' questionnaires will allow you to compare your perceptions with those of others.

When you create the observers, please choose observers whose insights and judgment you value. We suggest you explain to them that the feedback is an integral part of your leadership session. Please request that they respond in time for you to examine the results before the session.

Bring to the leadership session

Bring print outs of the result and analysis from the questionnaires to the leadership session. If you do not want to print, bring your mobile phone or tablet to make sure you always have your answers accessible. This information is for your eyes only. You will not be required to share your results with the group during your session. If any of your observers is prohibited in participating, try find someone else instead. If someone has begun but is unable to finish the questionnaire, please contact the administrator to reset user information and send a new invitation e-mail.

Background

You will soon be attending a leadership session, which builds upon a powerful and practical model known as the Leadership Diamond®.

The Leadership Diamond® was created by Peter Koestenbaum, Ph.D., an internationally acclaimed author, philosopher and leadership coach. The Diamond model represents the leadership mind as a methodology for expanding leadership capacity to achieve extraordinary results.

The four Diamond orientations are Ethics, Vision, Courage and Reality. When you attend the session, you will have the opportunity to explore and deepen your understanding of these orientations. Meanwhile, for purposes of completing your pre-work package, think of these orientations as referring to the following pragmatic working definitions:

Ethics means valuing and caring about people; being sensitive and of service to others

Vision means seeing the big picture in new ways; thinking analytically, systemically, strategically and creatively.

Courage means taking a stand; acting with sustained initiative.

Realism means living without illusions; knowing what it takes to achieve results.

The following questionnaire will help you assess your leadership style by determining which Diamond orientation(s) you favor and which orientation(s) are less developed.

Before you begin your journey to develop your leadership, you need to make an honest assessment of your current way of working, your behaviors and your attitudes. Answering the questionnaire will help you do this.

As you can see from the Profile Scoring Scale above, this profile uses a “forced choice”methodology. We are asking you to give a specified number of 5’s, 4’s, 3’s, 2’s and 1’s. The number required is shown next to each score. This type of feedback makes it easier for you to identify perception gaps, which occur when your own perceptions are significantly different than those of others.

It is important to remember that these scores do not reflect your abilities compared to someone else’s abilities. Rather, the profile rates you against yourself — a score of 1 or 2 means that particular skill is not as fully developed in you as a skill or attribute in which you are scored a 4 or 5. The primary purpose is to help you pinpoint areas for your personal leadership development.
